Pink City - Jaipur is the capital of royal Rajasthan - the land of the valiant.
Jaipur literally means - 'the city of victory'. Established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singhji, Jaipur has the credit of being India's first planned city. Built according to the principles of Hindu architecture as mentioned in the Shilpa Shastra, Jaipur came into being in the year 1727.
History
The history of Jaipur began when the rulers of Amber realized that they needed a larger, better planned and a safe settlement for the increasing population of the state. Raja Sawai Jai Singh chose the region for constructing his new capital and called it Jaipur at a distance of 11 kilometers from Amber.
Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya, a popular architect of those times was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh for designing and building Jaipur. Built on the basis of a grid system the old Jaipur city features wide avenues, palatial mansions and monuments - with walls washed in hues of pink.
The entire City was divided into nine blocks with the royal buildings clearly segregated from the other areas of the city.

He was a learned astronaut and a great scholar and the Jantar Mantar is an excellent illustration of his astronomical skills. The massive stone and mortar implements at this observatory can make accurate astronomical observations with perfect skill even today.
