History
According to an old legend, King Cheraman Perumal of Kerala embraced Islam and secretly set sail for Mecca sometime during the 9th century. His disciple, the Raja of Kolathiri send some soldiers on a ship to trace him and bring him back but the ship got struck in a storm and nearly sank. The survivors sailed to an uninhabited Island (Bangaram).
